Swedish company achieves success in New York with Skyline accelerator programme

There is strong demand for innovative solutions for the sustainable conversion of New York’s real estate. This is evidenced by the Swedish company Mestro, which has now taken its first step into the American market.

New York has set ambitious plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, which currently account for over 70 per cent of the city’s emissions. This opens good business opportunities for Swedish cleantech companies, something that the Swedish Energy Agency’s Skyline accelerator programme is taking advantage of.

The programme is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises offering energy and climate solutions for sustainable buildings that want to explore business opportunities in New York.

The programme played a decisive role for Mestro

With Skyline’s help, Swedish company Mestro has secured its first case in New York. By offering expertise, networks and resources, the programme has helped them navigate the complex American market. Using its innovative technology, the company has connected a property and can now monitor and optimise energy consumption in the building.

– Participating in the Skyline programme was a very rewarding experience for us at Mestro. With support from both the Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in New York, we had the opportunity to meet partners and potential customers, thereby sharpening our message for the American market. The fact that we now have 1245 Broadway connected to Mestro Portal is clear proof that New York is a city where contacts are everything and that Skyline has opened new doors for us, says Kristoffer Paldeak, Head of Investor Relations and Marketing at Mestro.

Great potential for climate-smart and innovative solutions

Mestro’s success demonstrates the potential for Swedish companies in New York. Commercial buildings and multi-family dwellings represent one of New York City’s greatest opportunities to reduce its emissions.

– New York’s skyline is known and admired around the world, and thanks to new sustainable construction methods, progressive local laws and a strong ecosystem of players, it is also becoming one of the most innovative. Rapidly reducing climate emissions from both residential and commercial buildings is a high priority, and there is strong demand for cutting-edge technological solutions. Swedish cleantech companies currently have an interesting opportunity to gain market position and contribute to the city’s transition, which in turn will show the way for the rest of the United States, says Kristin Barbato, CEO and founder of Build Edison, one of the Swedish Energy Agency’s partners in the programme.
